FAQs for Smartrak Fleet & Asset

FAQs for Smartrak Fleet & Asset

Q. Is Smartrak tracking in real-time?

A. Yes, Smartrak’s tracking system operates in real time, providing continuous and live visibility of vehicle locations through an intuitive map interface. This real-time capability allows fleet managers to monitor vehicle movements as they happen, access trip histories instantly, and gain insights into asset utilisation and driver behaviour.

Q. Does the telematics device work without mobile network access (e.g. satellite tracking)?

A. Even in areas without mobile coverage, the system continues to function effectively. In-vehicle devices cache event data locally and automatically synchronise with the central platform once connectivity is restored.

For operations in remote or low-coverage regions, satellite communication options are available to maintain real-time visibility and alerting. Please reach out if this is something you'd be interested in exploring further in the future.

Q. Can reports be generated from the Smartrak system?

A. Here is a small list of an example of the reports available:

-Electronic Logbook Reports: Automatically track vehicle usage, including trip data, odometer readings, and driver identification, supporting Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) compliance.

-Driver Behaviour Reports: Summarise daily driving events such as excessive speed, harsh braking, and acceleration, helping identify high-risk driving patterns.

-Vehicle Utilisation Reports: Provide insights into how often and how efficiently vehicles are being used, helping to identify underutilised assets.

-Maintenance and Servicing Reports: Track upcoming and historical vehicle servicing, including automated reminders for scheduled maintenance.

-Geofence Reports: Show vehicle activity within or outside defined geographic zones, useful for monitoring site visits, restricted areas, or compliance with operational boundaries.

-Fuel Usage Reports: Detail fuel consumption and costs, supporting efficiency analysis and environmental reporting.

-Trip Reports: Include key data such as trip start and end times, distances travelled, idle time, and GPS locations.

-Emergency and Duress Alert Logs: Record all triggered alerts for safety and incident response tracking.

Reports can be exported for further manipulation. They can also be scheduled and sent to designated recipients via email. For more advanced needs, custom reports and dashboards can be developed through Smartrak’s professional services or integrated with tools like Microsoft Power BI.

Q. Does the system record speed?

A. Yes, the system does track vehicle speed. Smartrak’s telematics platform continuously monitors vehicle speed in real time. It compares actual vehicle speed against posted speed limits using GPS-based velocity data, which is accurate to within 0.36 km/h. This enables the identification of speeding events across various environments, including urban and rural areas.

All speed-related events are timestamped and securely stored, supporting compliance, auditing, and driver behaviour analysis.
