How to add additional points of interest on the map (GIS Import)

Points of Interest

You already have the ability to add MapTags and Geofences onto your Smartrak map

However, if you are interested in having other location points on the map, Smartrak can do this for you (at a cost). This information could be fixed points, lines, or polygons. This could be anything important to your business such as:

Transformers
Aquifers
Tanks
Cell sites
Power lines
Cables

If you wish to add such data talk to your Customer Success Manager about GIS data imports. Below are there requirements for Smartrak to add GIS to your company map site

GIS Importing Requirements

Before Smartrak can add your specific location information to your company's Smartrak Maps we require the following information

A GIS Data file
Projection type
Any single points of interest icon files

GIS data file

This is generally a .SHP or a .CSV file which contains the geographic location of points of interest (POIs) and potentially a unique identifier number or name which is required if they would like hover labels and searchability on the map

SHP files can give points (a single POI), polygons (an area of interest), or polypoints (joined line segments, typically power lines). SHP files must also be accompanied by a .DBF and .SHX file in order for them to be readable

CSV files can only give points in LAT/LON or EASTING/NORTHING coordinates

Projection type

We prefer to receive these files in WGS84 projection (EPSG:4326), but as long as the projection type is given it should not be a problem

POI Icon file

We require icons to be 18 x 18 in PNG format. These need to be labelled appropriatelt and linked

If the client does not have an icon file, we can reuse an existing one or design a new one depending on what the POI is.
