The checks to make when investigating overspeed events:

  1. Is the overspeed event actually on the road? If the event is half-way up a hill or on top of a house, then the event was subject to GPS bounce and is not correct.
  2. Is the overspeed event is in a highly built-up area? Even if the event is on the road, sometimes a highly built up area will create GPS bounce off tall buildings.
  3. Check the events immediately before and after the overspeed event. If there is a large jump in speed in a small amount of time, this event may not be correct.
  4. It is recommended that these events are viewed as a trend for that driver, rather as individual events. Unless the speed has dangerously exceeded acceptable limits.
  5. If there is a pattern of high number of overspeeding or high g-force events, compared to other drivers, further investigation of vehicle history maybe appropriate.
The following report can help determining driver behaviour How do I view the vehicle behaviour report?

Why

WhatThese are events that the driver has either exceeded the default speed of 101km/h or your company's set speed limit.
How

Overspeed Reporting provides a granular level of detail on speeding occurrences to better support reporting on vehicle driving behaviour. One of its aims is to provide assistance in
speeding investigations, and to provide a clearer form of analysis.

Smartrak encourages all occurrences of speeding to be fully investigate for their validity before disciplinary action is taken.

What

Overspeed Severity Report

This report produces a summary of each assets speeding occurrences across a given time range,
with metrics relating to the regularity and extent of the occurrences. Each asset is then placed in a
severity category based on where the assets speeding metrics fit on a scale compared to the
other assets in the report. As such, the report is most effective when run with like vehicles,
which share similar overspeed thresholds.

Overspeed Period Report

This report will detail each individual speeding occurrence of a vehicle during a given
time frame. Each occurrence will have an associated start time, duration, distance and
minimum/maximum/average speed.

Overspeed Trips Mode

This mode will highlight visually on the map the section of road for which the vehicle was speeding.
It will help determinewhen, where, and for how long vehicles were overspeeding,

Polled Overspeed EventsOverspeed events will be generated every 5 seconds from the first overspeed instance to the
point at which the driver goes back below the overspeed threshold. By gaining a deeper insight
into exactly where the vehicle was throughout the speeding occurrence, it can be better
determined if the overspeed occurrence can be attributed to GPS inaccuracies, if any.
