What are Driver Periods?

A Driver Period is a duration in which we recorded a Person as being the Driver of a Remote.

Driver Periods can come from a number of different sources, such as completed Smartrak Pool Booking bookings, iButtons, Identifiers, or completed PoolCar bookings.

Companies can be configured to use no source, a single source, or multiple sources at one time.

Driver Sources

Driver sources are enabled per-company by requesting this be done via the Smartrak Service Desk

Smartrak Pool Booking

  • Only checked-out or checked-in bookings are used (This can be a manual or automatic check-in).

  • Checked-out bookings are treated as continuing forever, until they get checked-in.

  • To enable: must be enabled via Service Desk

  • To use: Create bookings in Smartrak Pool Booking!

Smartrak Identifications

  • Log on periods from the Identifications system can be used as a source for Driver ID.

  • Supported Identifications are:

    • Smartrak Identify App

      • Log on/off using a mobile app on your personal iOS or Android device.

    • iButtons

      • Log on/off by attaching/detaching a personal iButton to a KCS AVL

      • The current iButton system will not be supported. A entire new standalone separate system has been developed, which means current/historical iButton periods will not be used in the Driver based reports. Customers will have to migrate to the new iButton Identifications system using this tool in Admin: NEW - iButton Migration Process (for use with NEW - Driver Based Reporting) .

  • To enable: must be enabled via Service Desk

  • To use: Create and assign identifications in Admin, or use the Smartrak Identify Mobile App.

Smartrak Assigned Drivers

  • This provides the ability to assign who is the regular Driver for a Remote, via a page in Admin.

  • This is designed to support smaller companies where employees have personal vehicles, and Pool Booking or iButtons are not needed or used. Or, for companies who have mixture of Pool vehicles and (semi-)permanently assigned vehicles.

  • This will replace the purpose of the current ‘Driver Name / Driver Phone Number’ system, which is set on the Resource Info page in Admin.

  • To enable: must be enabled via Service Desk

  • To use: Create assignments under the Manage / People page in Smartrak Admin.

PoolCar Bookings

  • Only checked-out or checked-in bookings are used (This can be a manual or automatic check-in).

  • Checked-out bookings are treated as continuing forever, until they get checked-in.

  • The Driver name and email on the booking are used to name the Driver (the driver does not have to exist in the Smartrak system).

  • We match the Smartrak Remote to the PoolCar booking based on the vehicle's rego.

  • To enable: must be enabled via Service Desk

  • To use: Create and check out bookings in PoolCar!
