When a vehicle has been stationary, with the key on, for a particular period of time (standard is 120 seconds), a stop event is triggered and the unit begins to calculate idle. The idle calculation does not include the 120 seconds used to trigger a stop event.
Note: A vehicle sitting at rest with the engine off but key at the ACC (Accessory position) to perhaps operate the car stereo, will not be recording idle time.
Event | Time being recorded as Idleidle | Event to trigger end of idle time |
---|---|---|
Key OnĀ | Moving From Stopped | |
Stop | Moving From Stopped | |
Stop | Key Off |
The idle calculation does not include the 120 seconds used to trigger a stop eventSmartrak reports to report on idle time are as follows:
Idle Breakdown Report reports on idle duration by period by vehicle and includes the start time of the idle and the address where the idling occurred, see example report below:
...
You can also report on daily idle totals (among other metrics) using the Daily Usage Report - Daily Usage Report .
This can be useful to compare vehicles and identify trends.
