AVL

Automatic Vehicle Locator

This is the telematics hardware installed in the vehicle (generally behind the dashboard/glovebox)

You may also know it as: AVL Unit, Unit, GPS Unit, Remote, Resource, Asset, Vehicle

Aerial

Windscreen mounted aerial, external dome aerial, satellite aerial – aerial should also be replaced at the time of the AVL end of life replacement

Wiring

Wiring loom that connects AVL, aerial and additional hardware.

Internal Battery

Lithium Ion battery enclosed in the AVL

OBD-II

4G/5G Teltonika OBDII Unit FMM001. A low-cost plug-in telematics device

Illuminated Dash Switch

Light-up push button switch installed on the dashboard used for in-vehicle emergency alerting

Driver

A driver is a person who has been assigned to a vehicle. They can be assigned using the assigned driver functionality, Smartrak Pool Booking, PoolCar, Smartrak Identify App, button etc

Geofence

A virtual boundary used for utilisation reporting

GLONASS

A space-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that provides reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services to users on a continuous worldwide basis freely available to all.

GPS

Global Positioning System

GSM

Global System for Mobile communication

HIR/OS

High Impact and Rollover / over Satellite

IVMS

In Vehicle Management System (AVL, OBD-II for example)

Low-battery alert

When a vehicle or device gets to a certain level of voltage in the battery, an alert, configured in Smartrak Admin, can be set up to email or SMS a recipient

Map tag

A point of interest marked on the Smartrak map, used for historical reporting purposes including time on site

MSF

Officer Safety Alarm

People

A person that exists in Smartrak Pool Booking or as a Driver in Smartrak Admin. They DO NOT by default have a login to Smartrak App

Posted speed limit

The posted speed limit of a public road, ranges between 30km/h and 110km/h

PS

Professional Services - customer-funded development work to enhance one of our solutions

PTO

Power take-off (generally found on a truck)

RMA

Return Merchandise Authorisation. Authorisation given by our Technical Services team used to return hardware to Smartrak under warranty if requiring investigation and/or replacement

RRS

Real Road Speed (Relates to Posted Speed Limits/Zones and overspeed reporting). Sometimes referred to as Posted Speed Limit Monitoring (PSLM)

RUC

Road User Charges (usually simply pronounced as "ruck") NZ-only system for refunding diesel vehicle owners for the portion of kilometres travelled off-road. Diesel owners pre-purchase RUC licences in 1,000km lots and must display the licence in the corresponding vehicle's windscreen.
