How do I create & view Garmin Points of Interest (POI)?

Garmin POI Creator
  • Log into the Smartrak Admin site (NZ or AU)
  • Go to Import Export > Garmin POI Creator
  • Download the template, and fill with the required information

  • Save the file to PC and select Choose File

  • Locate and select the POI Template file from PC then select Upload

  • Download GPI File
  • Save to file
  • Plug Garmin into PC via USB

  • Open the POI folder on the Garmin to check POI Template file has been saved.
  • Unplug Garmin from PC, turn on and check the POIs are successfully loaded:

  • They are listed by closest POI.

  • POIs can be searched for and selected on the Garmin and then routed from there

  • POIs will appear on the map as small black squares

  • If the square is touched, the name of the POI will appear and vehicle can be route there by pressing Go!

  • POIs will populate on the map regardless of whether the vehicle is on an active route or not
