What does a Battery Low alert mean?

Below is the process as it relates to an AVL installed in a vehicle, as the low battery alert is based on the voltage of the vehicle's battery, not the device's battery.

What is it?

What is it?

A Battery Low event may, from time to time, appear on your map screen.

You can also configure low battery alerts to be sent to pre-configured recipients via email and/or text message.

How does it work?

When a battery in a vehicle is between a particular voltage level, a low battery event can be triggered and used to alert that a vehicle’s battery may need replacing soon.

The low battery event is based on a Health Check event (which occurs every 4 hours in coverage area) and is based on the following voltage:

  • 12 volt battery - more than 5 volts and less than 11 volts

  • 24 volt battery - more than 15 volts and less than 21 volts

  • This alert means that the vehicle battery charge is low

  • This could be due to;

    • Battery going flat, receiving no charge

    • Battery may need testing and replacing

    • The vehicle has been stationery for a period of time and the battery power is running low.

Important note

Low battery events and alerts will only be generated while the vehicle ignition is in an off position.
