Emergency alerts when activated, require an predetermined action plan to be followed, these steps record what has occurred

When a driver activates their in-vehicle emergency dash switch, a vehicle is involved in a significant force event, or a person activates their personal locator device, a number of actions occur;

  • The Smartrak device recognises this signal and sends an emergency alert back to the main system (As long as the vehicle/device is within cellphone coverage, unless a satellite unit has been installed (not standard))

  • The alert will be displayed on the map screen for all users that have permission to view that vehicle/device.

  • The current event for the vehicle will change to Emergency and will flash between a yellow and red light (see below).

Map users, that view the alert, will have the option to;

  • Acknowledge the emergency, which indicates you’re aware of the emergency and have taken ownership of it, but it is not yet cleared.

  • Clear the emergency, the user who has determined why the alert was raised, will clear the event, records the action taken.

  • Please be aware that acknowledging or clearing the alert will affect all users, so please only take these actions once you have investigated and are taking ownership of the alert.

  • It is recommended that identified users, follow a predetermined process which is documented and understood by all stakeholders. Use this guide to help create a process that works for your particular business/org; Example Process for Managing Emergency Alerts

  • Once the emergency is cleared, a green tick will show for all users as the most recent event until the vehicle/device moves again.
