Problem Statement | Monitoring instances of speeding across a fleet is of utmost importance, as it affects both driver safety and the condition of the vehicles, as well as fuel consumption. However, keeping track of these events can be quite challenging for fleet managers. Going through spreadsheets and analysing the data to draw conclusions can be very time-consuming and overwhelming. |
Release Audience | All F&A customers who have vehicle tracking (AVL/OBD-II/Nextrak). |
Solution | Insights has taken another step forward in enhancing driver safety by introducing a new feature called "Overspeeding." This advanced feature offers several helpful visual analytics of the fleet's overspeeding events, enabling fleet managers to quickly identify overspeeding events and patterns. This will help managers take necessary actions to ensure the safety of their drivers, maintain proper vehicle conditions, and save on fuel costs. With Insights' new "Overspeeding" feature, fleet managers can take control of their fleet's safety and efficiency like never before. |
Functionality & Features | The feature provided is a visual analytics tool within the Driver Safety module. It presents a clear and interactive graphical representation of overspeeding incidents over a selectable date range (screenshots below). The bar graph indicates the instances of overspeeding, and a detailed table lists information for individual drivers or vehicles (customers without driver ID) Date Range Selection: Users can select a specific time frame to view overspeeding incidents. A drop-down list that offers the most commonly used data ranges, and the user can retrieve up to two years of historical data. Business Hours Filter: This filter allows users to modify the data according to their desired business hours, focusing on the most relevant operation times. Posted Speed Limit Slicer: This tool allows the user to adjust the display of overspeed incidents according to the desired speed ranges, such as 20-60 km over the speed limit. Bar Chart of Overspeed Incidents: This is the main bar graph, and it displays the average penalty incidents across the fleet (Y-Axis) for the selected date range, based on the “real road speed,” with hover-over features that provide additional details. (The average penalty is calculated based on the overspeeding infractions. They are weighted against the time spent over the posted limit and the severity of the speed above it. Therefore, speeding constantly at 110km/hr for a longer period is weighted similarly to speeding at 130km/hr for a shorter period.) Driver-Specific Overspeed Data: A table lists each driver's average penalty score per 100km, the average duration, and the maximum overspeed in Km/h. The user can also locate the highest average penalty event by clicking on a provided link to open a new page with the location where the user can see the road speed and the actual driver speed. Vehicle overspeeding Data: The user will be able to see the overspeeding incidents allocated to vehicles in case the company does not have the driver identity activated Other Charts: Smaller bar charts will help users quickly obtain useful snapshots. Specifically, a bar chart will provide the average penalty events in the current week, and another chart will show the time of day at a glance. Furthermore, a bar chart will provide the speed ranges versus the average penalty events. Drill-down feature: Insights empower users to access more in-depth data by clicking on the main bar chart or the driver’s table. A more granular level of information will be presented.
Access: To access the overspeeding data, a user must have two levels of permissions, at the company and user role levels. |
Value Propositions / Messages | Sustainable Transportation: The tool aligns with eco-friendly practices by enabling managers to minimise unnecessary fuel usage and reduce carbon emissions through better speed management, contributing to a more sustainable transportation system. Enhanced Safety and Compliance: Prioritising driver safety, the tool helps fleet managers enforce speed limits, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring adherence to traffic laws, which is fundamental to maintaining a safe and legally compliant operation. Operational Cost Efficiency: By analysing and addressing overspeeding, the tool helps lower fuel consumption and decrease vehicle wear and tear, leading to significant cost savings and extended vehicle lifespans. Saving Fleet Manager's Time: Empower fleet managers to easily identify instances of overspeeding and make data-driven decisions with just a few clicks, saving time and eliminating the need to tediously filter through spreadsheets to find these occurrences.
