Previously, Smartrak Map Users have been able to create geofences with classes such as entry or exit notifications or capturing lower-end speeding events, but have been limited by only being able to have one feature for each geofence class.
What has changed?
We have enhanced the geofencing experience by enabling multiple features to be attached to a single geofence class.
What are the new features?
Now Smartrak Map Users can create a new geofence class and assign up to seven features to it.
Availability - used with Smartak’s Insights platform and indicates a vehicle is available when inside an Availability geofence. See this article for information about the Availability feature - Smartrak Insights - Enabling 'Availability' Feature on GeofencePreview
Speed Limited (15, 20, 30, 50, 80, 100km/h) - enables the event type in-geofence overspeed to be reported via the Activity Report
Geofence Category - Home/Office - this will be used to determine whether EV charging is being done at home or at the office. (under development)
What does it mean for me?
This will provide customers with the capability to receive notifications and reportable events via multiple methods and under various circumstances for the same geofence, thus ensuring that all essential details are promptly noted and acted upon. Such an upgrade will considerably enhance the quality and efficiency of services to the business.
How do I set it up?
Edit an existing geofence
Click on Edit classes
Click on Edit next to the class
Select the features to assign
then click on Edit class
Success!
Or follow the instructions in this video
*Note: Geofence Management
Overlapping Geofences: Users are advised against deleting geofences that overlap. Upon deletion, associated data will be lost. Currently, Insights does not support the retrieval or viewing of deleted geofences.
Data Consistency: Maintaining existing geofences without deletion ensures the data within Insights & Reporting remains consistent with its current state.
Advisory on Geofence Deletion: We strongly recommend against the removal of geofences at this juncture. As a potential solution for those seeking consolidation, we are exploring a Professional Services (PS) offering where geofence data can be merged.
Future Consideration: While enhancing the system to show deleted geofences is technically possible, this brings additional complexities, such as handling removed or deleted vehicles. It might or might not get prioritised.
